[Sports Seoul | Reporter Shin Jae-yoo] The size of the smart mobility market is rapidly expanding in line with the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Personal mobility startup ‘PEP Mobility’ is also one of the companies receiving attention in this atmosphere.
Kang Gwang-sik, CEO of PEP Mobility, suffered an accident while studying regenerative medicine in college and became mildly disabled, making it difficult for him to continue walking and running. After a period of frustration, I became fascinated by personal mobility, a futuristic means of transportation that even disabled people can freely use, and entered the sales business. Meanwhile, he realized that the lack of personal mobility charging infrastructure was directly related to survival for people with disabilities, and founded PEP Mobility to solve this problem.
Of the approximately 100,000 electric vehicle chargers installed nationwide, 90% are slow chargers with slow charging speeds. Because of this, the reality is that the usage rate is only 10%. PEP Mobility paid attention to this and sought ways to create various values by utilizing oversupplied slow chargers. As a result, we developed the mobility charging gender PEP charger, which improves the electric vehicle slow charger into an electric charger.
It is an innovative product that can charge everything from electric kickboards to ultra-small electric vehicles by plugging it into a nearby electric vehicle slow charger. It is compatible with 220V personal mobility, so as long as you have a PEP charger, you do not have to worry about remaining battery power when going out. If a fire hazard is detected during charging, the electricity is automatically turned off to prevent fire. Above all, expectations are high that social costs can be reduced by resolving charging infrastructure problems.
PEP Mobility plans to fund the PEP Charger product through the crowdfunding platform Wadiz. PEP Mobility, which changed the charging paradigm of personal mobility, was selected for the 2022 Sports Seoul Life Special Innovative Korean & Power Korea.
CEO Kang, who is preparing to participate in the Busan International Motor Show, said, “We are planning a way to receive a charging gender free of charge by utilizing the local government’s budget for the electric wheelchair repair cost support project for the disabled and the elderly. “We will develop and commercialize electric vehicles, charger products specifically for the disabled, AI-based S/W that provides real-time information on charging station locations, and charging genders for both automobiles and mobility,” he said.
